Photos transport us to a moment in time. As a visual medium, they serve as a window into the past, often when words fall short, conveying the emotions, sounds, sentiments and human experiences that are otherwise difficult to describe.

Rosetta Anderson and the Marion Franklin Lions Club

Rosetta Anderson played the accordion at the Marion Franklin Lions Club for their 1977 White Cane Sale festivities. The Lions Club raised money for Rosetta to purchase artificial eyes, as she was blind. Standing behind her were Lions Club members (from left to right) James Bowman, Carl Taylor and Charles Hendrix.

News photographers chase stories at all hours of the day, rain or shine, sometimes even jeopardizing their own safety, to document the joys, tragedies, achievements and disasters that shape a community.

For over a century, Dispatch staff photographers have skillfully captured the stories of seemingly ordinary Columbus residents doing extraordinary things.
